Difference between a King and California King Size Mattress

Ciao! In this blog, we will go over the distinct differences between a King and California King size mattress. Because both of these mattresses are somewhat similar there can be a lot of misconceptions. Not to worry, by the end of this, you will be able to clearly identify the similarities and differences while also being able to see which size will work the best for you!

Bene, let’s start by identifying each size individually!

All About King Size Mattresses:

If you are someone who enjoys and desires more space when sleeping or you are currently sharing your bed and need more in order for you and your partner to be comfortable; a King size mattress is the perfect option for you!

King size mattresses are also known as “Eastern King” are made to be wider which gives the ability for more room, especially when you are not the only one sleeping on the bed.

The dimensions for a king size are around: 76×80 inches – 76 inches wide by 80 inches long

Few pros and cons about a King Size Mattress that can help you determine if this is the right size for you are:

  • (Pros) If you need shorter room or if your body length is on the shorter side. King size mattresses are not as long compared to the California king size, however if you are looking for short and wide room then this will be just right.
  • (Pros) If you have space in your room for a wider mattress, and you also like to share your bed with a partner/kids/ or even your pets if they like to sleep besides you from time to time; this mattress can hold you all together (heart)
  • (Cons) If your body length is on the taller side, there might not be enough leg room due to the short and wide size. Your feet might hang from the end of the bed! But not to worry because that is why we also have the California King 😊
  • (Cons) If you room is small, this mattress might be too wide, and it can be a little tedious to make it fit just perfectly.

All About California King Size Mattresses:

The California King also referred to as “Cal King”, got its memorable signature name from Hollywood, due to the high demand of requests from celebrities that wanted a more luxurious and spacious style.

The California King Size Dimensions are around: 72×84 inches – 72 inches wide by 84 inches long

The pros and cons for the Cal King Size are:

  • (Pros) If you are taller, this size will be the most accommodable for you! Because the Cal king size bed is longer, it can be able to leave enough space at the end of the bed.
  • (Pros) If you have a narrower bedroom that is not wide enough, this size will fit more efficiently.
  • (Pros) If your pet likes to sleep at your feet instead of right next to you, then the Cal King would be just right!
  • (Cons) Because of the unique structure, it might be harder to find bedding accessories compared to a regular King or Queen!
  • (Cons) If you share the bed with your partner or occasionally have kids joining you, there will not be enough room to comfortably fit everyone

After distinguishing each different type of size, we hope you got a clear idea of what each provides! Make sure to check out our mattresses here at GiNO as we do offer both the King and Cal King sizes for you.

As always, buona notte e sogni d’oro

What is a Mattress Protector?

Ciao! Just like all your favorite things in life, you want to guard it with your life, so that you can always be able to enjoy it! For example, protecting your loved ones, or your phone with a case. Our beds are our sanctuary, a place where we can escape reality and take a breather, it is important that we take care of our mattresses the way it takes care of us.

A mattress protector is almost like a fitted sheet on your bed that protects you from any messy mishaps! This is an important essential to have in your bedding because it is preventative and provides extra comfort. For example, any spills, or build-up allergens that develop over time can negatively impact your mattress’s life expectancy. By using a protector, you can prevent this.

Mattress Protectors can also protect you from these listed threats:

  • Dust mites
  • Body sweat
  • Overheating of the mattress
  • Bacteria
  • Liquids
  • Bed Bugs
  • Early wearing down of the mattress

Mattress protectors are made purposely to be water-resistant while still allowing air and breathability. Here at GiNO, we make sure that you get this duo from our mattress protectors.

Our GiNO mattress protector includes:

  • Waterproof and breathability
  • Reversible cover
  • Double-sided in terry cotton for the summer and polyester for the winter
  • In addition, this kit comes with two pillow protectors as well 😊
  • Comes in three different sizes: Queen, King, and Cal King

When buying a mattress protector, you want to consider a few essential things such as:

  • Is the mattress protector waterproof?
  • Will the protector be cleanable, will it also include materials that will help take out bacteria and allergens?
  • Is the protector breathable? It is important to make sure air flow is present within your protector, that way you can have a cool sleep.
  • Lastly you should make sure the protector suits your comfort preferences!

Keep in mind, not all mattress protectors are the same, in order to make sure you are getting the right one for you, check out this list:

  • Encasement (or zippered): This mattress protector covers your entire mattress from the top to bottom. This protector is usually closed with a zipper.
  • Fitted: This type of mattress protector is very popular; it can fit your mattress the same way a fitted sheet would.
  • Elastic Strap: This protector is places on top of your mattress while elastic straps cover the four corners. This helps keep the protector attached to the mattress.

There are multiple materials included in the mattress protector:

  • Polyester
  • Down
  • Vinyl
  • Cotton
  • Polyurethane

Bene, we hope you got a better understanding of the importance of a mattress protector, to make every moment in your bed peaceful and enjoyable, make sure to continuously take care of and protect your mattress. How often should you replace your mattress?

Ciao! Getting attached to your mattress can be a true struggle when it is time to give it up. However, it is important to make sure you are replacing your mattress after a certain time span or if you start seeing any red flags that are showing you it is time to move on!

If you are curious to see what these red flags 🚩might be, check out our previous blog.

However, if you want to know the basics on why and when you should replace your mattress, you have come to the right place!

Bene, you are probably wondering why you have to replace your mattress if there is not anything truly wrong with it right?

Well, there are a few reasons why you should replace them frequently. Mattresses over time can begin to sag and its shape could change which can cause lumps, these lumps can affect your sleep, and make you feel a sense of discomfort.

If you have not been getting enough sleep lately, it would be ideal to check your mattress and the number of years it has been since you purchased it. Usually, the time span for how often a mattress should be replaced is six to eight years. Try to act fast and replace as soon as possible, getting the right amount of sleep is important for your body!

Remember, that lack of sleep can possibly cause heart and kidney disease. But do not worry, your mattress bestie aka me will go more into depth on additional things you should look out for when checking if you need to replace your mattress!

Other signs that can give you a clear sign to replace the mattress are:

  • Noisy springs
  • If your allergies get worse due to allergens the mattress contains
  • Sudden pain and aches when you wake up
  • Bed bug appearances

As always, our blogs are the most fun with a tall glass of wine in your hand, so before I go on any further, pour it up!

Bene, let me explain the signs a little more!

Noisy springs: You will start to notice that the mattress springs make a squeaking noise when there is movement. The reason the springs start to make noise is that the coils, which are the spirals of the rings, are worn out and are unable to provide support.

If you notice your allergies worsen: Unfortunately, when your mattress gets older it can develop dust mites and allergens. In fact, out of your whole house, these allergens tend to live right in your mattress! You can try to vacuum and intensively clean your mattress however if your allergies do not get better, it is time to replace your mattress ASAP.

If you are getting more muscle stiffness and pains: This sign usually happens when your mattress loses support. If you start to feel a lot of movement, especially if you share the bed with your partner, this can also mean that it is losing support on certain spots on the mattress! But do not panic, a new mattress is a perfect solution.

If you read these signs, but still want further information, check out all the red flags to look out for! And if you realized that it is time to replace your mattress, the next step would be to shop for your replacement and dispose of the old! Guess what, as always, I got you covered! Check out our shopping guide and different ways to dispose of your old mattress, click on the links for more information.

Now you are probably done with your glass of wine, so I should wrap this up! Make sure to check up on your mattress and remember, you will find an even better one, so don’t be afraid to replace it! Stay tuned for more blogs, but for now, Buonanotte e sogni d’oro. 💤

What are the different types of Mattresses?

Ciao! The mattress world can be complicated because there are so many different options to choose from. Along with these options, all the mattresses have different unique add-on features that are specific to each manufacturer.

I know it can be stressful when shopping for the right type of mattress and getting the perfect sleep is very important!  So, I am here to help walk you through the different types of mattresses.

Allora, let’s begin

I will be listing five different types of mattresses:

  • Memory Foam
  • Innerspring
  • Hybrid
  • Gel-Infused
  • Latex

MEMORY FOAM

Memory foam has many qualities that make it one of the most comfortable mattress types for consumers!

A couple of unique qualities are:

  1. Relieves body pain and discomfort by taking away the pressure points at the shoulders, hips, elbows and knees
  2. Cradles your spine perfectly and great for side sleepers
  3. It provides great temperature control
  4. It is allergy friendly

If you are noticing frequent body aches and joint pain, switching to memory foam might be your answer. Memory foam can easily fit and match perfectly with your body. Here at GiNO, our memory foam is weight and pressure-sensitive, which can provide great elastic support and recovery with a quick shape response. A good posture sleep is important, and we want you to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start your spectacular day!

Temperature control for many sleepers is a crucial quality to have. Being overly hot or cold could irritate your sleep, and there goes another sleepless night! However, with memory foam, it is made out of temperature-sensitive material which allows the mattress to balance out the temperature for you. Many manufacturers provide cooling features as well. Here at GiNO, we use an open-cell memory foam that creates a breathable and cooler memory foam, so you can sleep cool all night long.

Allergy-friendly! What a relief right! As mentioned in previous blogs when a mattress is overused and not replaced, dust mites and other allergens can start living in it. But not to worry, because memory foam is made to prevent allergens because of the mattress’s dense form.

INNERSPRING

Innerspring mattresses are one of the oldest sleep technologies, however, they have evolved throughout time and are still used today!

Innersprings give off a bouncy and light feel, so if you are looking for something firmer this might not be your match. However, many sleepers love bouncy beds because they are easier to move around or get on and off the bed.

This type of mattress might also be a good choice if you are a stomach sleeper, due to the uniform, and light sleeping surface.

However, if we are talking long-term, the memory foam tends to stay more durable longer than the innerspring!

HYBRID

If you read the above descriptions and felt that they could both have the potential to be your perfect mattress match, then the hybrid mattress might be for you! This mattress has a combination of both spring and foam. However, the features will still be different compared to memory foam or innerspring.

The hybrid mattress is typically made up of innerspring for the internal support area with memory foam on the upper area for comfort.  Many manufacturers produce this mixed version in order to cut the costs of the more expensive foam support layer.

GEL or GEL-INFUSED FOAM

Gel mattresses focus on the comfort in the hip and joint area, and it also has great temperature regulation!

These beds limit motion transfer and provide support, which can be beneficial for couples because you would not have to worry about bothering your partner when tossing and turning.

However, these can be on the more expensive side, and there are many variations of this type.

LATEX

Latex mattresses can be tricky depending heavily on your preference and body reaction towards the material! Some are allergic to latex, and this mattress type would not work for them.

However, this material allows the mattress to offer soft comfort along with strong pressure relief. Say goodbye to sinking into your mattress! Latex has a strong form and gives the essential support needed.

Meraviglioso! Now that I have listed the types of mattresses, I hope you got a better idea of which one out of these could be your perfect match. Buying a mattress is a big investment, it is crucial to ask questions, do your research, and check out our blogs for more information.

All About Sleep

Ciao! Today we will be discussing our favorite thing to do, SLEEP! Here at GiNO, we think that sleep is just as important as our quality sleep products. The reason we are able to function each day is highly dependent on the amount of sleep we get. It is essential to get the right amount of sleep and make sure you are getting sleep in general, in order to take care of your body and mind.

The two topics we will be focusing on are how much sleep should you get, and why is sleep important!

Bene let’s begin!

How much sleep is the right amount?

For some of us, we would be considered the sleepy dwarf from snow white!  However, oversleeping or sleeping frequently during the day is not as healthy or good for you as you may think. Getting little to no sleep frequently is also not a habit you should get into. So, if sleeping too much and too little is not the right amount, then what is?

Well, the right amount of sleep is seven to nine hours! As you grow older your sleep needs to change in order for your body to properly rest and prepare you for the next day. For example, a newborn needs 14 to 17 hours of sleep, but a teen or adult could range from a healthy seven to nine hours. Even though the sound of getting eight hours of sleep seems simple, our busy and unexpected lives could potentially get in the way of that. However, creating a consistent sleep schedule and nighttime routine will help you achieve these hours each day!

Ways to make sure you reach eight hours:

  • Get into bed at a reasonable time each day, that leaves you enough room to rest for the eight hours without feeling restless
  • Create a nighttime routine that can help your body adjust to your sleeping schedule. The routine can include reading a book before bed, listening to music, meditation, or a hot cup of soothing nighttime tea!
  • Create a sleep journal to track how much sleep you have been getting. This can be a powerful tool to use because you will then be able to see what areas you need to work on, and what you have to adjust within your daily sleeping schedule. You will also then be able to see what days leave you with less sleep compared to others, so you can potentially change that for yourself.
  • Making sure you are maintaining your sleep hygiene. If you want to learn more about this be sure to check out our previous blog where we go over the do’s and don’ts in order to have the perfect sleep hygiene which leads to a good night’s rest.

Without the eight hours of sleep, you could potentially feel sleep-deprived, this is a topic we will get into more during this blog!

Why is sleep important

Besides the fact that sleep is comforting and allows us to shut our eyes and take a break to just simply ~ do nothing ~, there are so many essential reasons why sleep is vital for our everyday lives!

Sleep is a way your body can recharge. Just like our phones, for example, they can’t run properly unless they are changed frequently. For us, our body needs and DESERVES to rest, after all, it is why we are functioning every day.

Before a big event, game, or exam, you are probably used to making sure you get a good night’s sleep. This is because your body is more productive and focused when you had the time to rest the full required hours.

In fact, your body is less likely to gain weight if you get the proper amount of sleep. You would be gaining more Zzzz’z than weight, and your body tends to improve good bacteria which helps with your digestion! Amazing right? While sleep physically helps your body stay healthy, it also helps mentally. With enough sleep, you can wake up feeling like sunshine; but with lack of sleep, your mood might be off and it could be hard to process your emotions in the way you normally would.

Speaking of lack of sleep, let’s get into the signs of being sleep deprived:

If you are getting less than eight hours of sleep each night frequently, you might be sleep-deprived, and the idea of feeling “widely awake” might be something you can’t remember anymore.

Here is a list that can help you diagnose if you are sleep deprived, and not to worry, we will also go over ways to fix this issue 😊 As always, GiNO’s got your back from comfy mattresses to healthy sleeping tips!

Let’s get started:

  • You get tired and drowsy after heavy meals, or when you are doing physical activities, such as driving.
  • You frequently if not always hit the snooze button. (We have all been there, but if it is a constant habit, it means you did not get the proper sleep in order to function well when it is time to wake up!)
  • You feel the need to take naps during the day (if you nap more during the day, your body will not be able to rest properly at night!)
  • You feel weak and tired during the day
  • You end up falling asleep while reading a book or watching TV at night
  • You wake up with a mood instead of feeling refreshed

Now before any freakouts, let’s move on to the list of what you can do, in order to prevent sleep deprivation.

  • Get you eight hours of sleep
  • Exercise for at least 20-30 minutes each day to get your body moving
  • Avoid heavy meals and caffeinated drinks close to bedtime
  • Get enough sunlight exposure when possible
  • Meditate
  • If you have been trying to prevent this or improve your sleep but have not seen results, talking to your doctor would be a great way to get down to the problem

The most important thing is to make sure you are taking care of yourself and giving your body everything it needs to keep shining! Sleep is vital, and I hope you all get the chance to have the needed amount of rest each day! As always GiNO is here to answer any questions you may have.

What is Sleep Hygiene

Ciao! Welcome to our snooze o‘clock section, besides the mattress world, there is also a whole world of sleep! Our first topic to touch on is sleep hygiene.

You might be wondering, “what is sleep hygiene? and I am here to answer this for you.

Sleep hygiene is the practices and habits you obtain in order to get a good night’s sleep, these habits can also prevent certain sleep issues and discomfort as well.

Okay so now you are probably wondering if you have good or bad sleep hygiene! Listed below are signs that you need to improve on your sleeping habits:

  • Having background noises while sleeping
  • You tend to nap throughout the day
  • You do not have a consistent bedtime or sleeping schedule
  • You tend to drink a cup of coffee before bedtime
  • You have a lot of build of anxiety that troubles you to fall asleep

If any of these sounds like a familiar habit to you, not to worry! I will now the good practices you can take part of to ensure you a restful satisfying sleep:

  • Avoid daytime naps
  • Establish a nighttime routine
  • Make sure to sleep in an environment that is clean, healthy, and makes you feel comfortable
  • Perform stress relieving activities before bedtime such as; yoga, meditation, and journaling
  • Avoid eating heavy large meals and drinking coffee prior to your sleep time
  • Try to stay away from your phone, laptop, or any electronic devices before bed
  • Make sure to have a consistent sleep schedule
  • Associate you bed mainly for sleeping, try to avoid doing work or eating on it

That was a handful of good habits! There are many more tips and suggestions to improve your sleep hygiene, however, I will go more into depth on the ones previously listed.

Bene let’s begin!

Avoid Frequent Day Time Naps

Ah, the bittersweet daytime naps. It is a tempting feeling to just “rest your eyes” for a “few minutes” but what we all get tricked on is those short little resting minutes end up turning into a full three-hour nap! Oh mio dio, now the whole night you are up and the next day you will want to rest your eyes again because of the lack of sleep you got. See the endless nap trap pattern?

Napping can help you feel less tired during the day, but it will affect the amount of sleep you get during the night. A great alternative to napping is going on a walk instead! Even though it might sound like too much work, it is refreshing and can wake you up.

The key to feeling less tired is keeping your body moving, exercising and meditating are healthy ways to take care of your body and stay clear of the tempting yet dangerous daytime naps.

Establish a nighttime routine and keep your sleep schedule consistent:

It is important to also have a steady daily nighttime routine, just as you might have for during the day.

Usually, nighttime routines can include calming activities that are able to relax your body and prevent any stress and anxiety that could interrupt your sleep. Some of these activities include but are not limited to; journaling, meditating, reading, listening to soothing music, or even taking a hot bath!

We are accustomed to habits and routines, so make sure to allow your body to have consistency when it comes to the thing we need and love the most: SLEEP.

Avoid eating heavy meals or drinking coffee prior to bedtime:

That late-night pizza craving or that hot cup of coffee does sound molto delizioso, but it is not so great when it comes to maintaining a healthy sleeping hygiene.

Heavy meals before bedtime can lead to an uncomfortable feeling in your stomach! You could possibly get indigestion, acid reflex, a heavy feeling in your stomach, and pain.

However, you can still have a light snack such as some fruit, nuts, and occasionally some homemade popcorn won’t hurt!

Caffeine and Alcohol are stimulants, this means they will surely keep you restless at night if taken close to your bedtime. Now I am all for a tall glass of wine, but you have to make sure you are intaking these beverages at a reasonable time that won’t affect your precious sleep.

Try to stay away from your phone or any electronic devices before bed:

Yes, I do mean say goodbye to before bedtime Instagram scrolling! But only for a good reason of course.

The bright lights from the electronic devices can actually trick your brain into thinking it is daytime! So when you are staring at the screens right before bed, it will be difficult to get your body back into the resting mood.

Try to associate your bed with sleeping only:

Our beds are usually the most comforting place to be in the whole house, however, it is important to make sure you are not always plopping yourself on the bed for things such as work, or even eating!

When you associate too many other habits with the bed, your body and mind will be less likely to immediately want to sleep. Your bedroom and bed should be a calming sanctuary where you can take a step away from the busy life and take a breather! If you are working on your bed, you have now correlated rest and relation to stress and deadlines.

Keeping your bed clean and a place for a good night’s sleep can help boost your sleep hygiene tremendously! Maybe even purchasing a comfy new mattress can do the trick as well 😊

That’s a wrap!

Bene! You are all educated on the ins and outs of good sleep hygiene, and you might have realized there are some things to work on, for your sleep routine! Here at Gino getting the most comfortable and restful sleep is important to us, and I hope this helped and inspired you to keep your hygiene in check! If there are any questions, feel free to ask Mr.GiNO.

Is a Mattress-in-a-Box Right for You?

There’s a little bit of magic in every box…could your perfect mattress possibly come in one?

Ciao! If you are wondering if a mattress-in-a-box is right for you, well as always, you came to the right place, mio amico.

The first thing you should ask yourself is, do you go to stores in person often when searching for mattresses? During times like this when COVID-19 is still present, many shoppers have moved to completely online shopping, but that is not a bad thing. In fact, online shopping can bring you unlimited options and varieties of the items you are in search of. This goes for the mattress-in-a-box market as well. Because it is online, manufacturers can be able to provide you with a variety of choices and different features that could potentially suit your exact preferences.

You must be thinking: what are the benefits of shopping for your mattress online!

Well, shopping online for your mattress-in-a-box can allow you to see more options and varieties compared to what is shown and available in stores. This is a great plus if you are living in a small city because you might find it difficult to find exactly what you are looking for when there are fewer options to choose from. Many manufacturers who sell a mattress-in-a-box pay great attention to detail and the needs and wants of their consumers when producing a mattress. For example, here at GiNO, our foams are expanded using water-based technology which creates an open-cell structure that makes it more breathable and cooler! As for firmness, the mattress-in-a-box usually falls in the medium firmness range, which allows for greater flexibility and appeals to the greatest number of consumers.

However, these are not the only features! At GiNO, we focus on spine support, breathability, weight, and pressure for good posture, cleaning benefits, and mattress protection.

There are a few common misconceptions about a mattress-in-a-box which include issues with the temperature, off-gassing, and roll packing. Many think that the memory foam tends to be hot, however, with GiNO, sleeping hotter will not be a problem for you. As mentioned before our cooling feature will assure you the right temperature balance your body needs to have a restful sleep.

Off-gassing occurs when the memory foam has a chemical or petroleum smell. Odor!! No thank you, am I right? That is why GiNO focuses on making their mattresses safe and clean without VOCs and using only certified materials without toxic chemical off-gassing.

As for roll packing, many think it causes permanent damage to the mattress. However, mattresses in a box are designed to be highly resilient. Once the plastic wrapping is removed, the layers will expand until the bed reaches its fully intended shape. The foams, coils, and other components should fully recover in one to two days without any sort of damage.

Along with the features, believe it or not, you are actually saving more compared to if you purchased a traditional model! In fact, a lot of companies offer discounts and deals continuously throughout the year. That’s right…this magical mattress-in-a-box can help you save from what you could have been spending at the furniture store.

Fun fact: compressing the mattress into a small box actually helps reduce shipping costs and the manufacturer passes these savings on to you!

Here at GiNO, you have the ability to possibly try our mattresses out in person and still receive it in a box! We have 20 locations across the United States. This is a great way to see if the mattress would be your perfect match before making your final decision. However, if you are unable to reach our locations, not to worry! We have a live chat on our website, so you can ask and confirm any questions you might have, we also provide detailed descriptions with everything from the materials, features, to the firmness. Along with our helpful and efficient website, we also have an active social media appearance, we put up reviews and demonstrations of the unboxing on our Instagram. As for returns, we have some good news for you! If you return your mattress within our 100-day sleep trial, you can return your mattress at no cost.

Bene! I hope this blog gave you enough clarity on what a mattress-in-a-box is, and how it can be a great potential choice for you. A good start is to read reviews and information that focuses on the cost, delivery, and returns before purchasing. Here at GiNO, we are always ready to answer any questions you might have that will help you get the most magical and comfortable experience with your mattress purchase.

As always Buona notte e sogni d’oro from yours truly 😴

Out with the old in with the new: How to dispose of your mattress

Ciao! Breaking up with your mattress is not the best feeling, however, the feeling of getting a brand new one and moving on to better things is surely something special. If you are unsure whether or not it is time to get rid of your mattress, check out our previous blog on all the red flags to know when it is the right time to say arrivederci! However, if you are wondering exactly how to approach the next step of the process, you came to the right place.

Disposing of a mattress can be tedious, so as I always say, grab a tall glass of wine and let me guide you through the different options to dispose of a mattress stress-free!

Bene, let’s continue…

Believe it or not, but the way you decide to dispose of a mattress can have a great impact on the environment. For example, leaving your mattress in front of your house or throwing it in the dumpster, can fill up our landfills with chemicals. Mattresses are considered to be hazardous waste, and that is something we want to be extra careful about.

Not to worry because the best way to protect the environment during this process is to recycle!

The first thing you will want to do is search where you can recycle your mattress around your area. There are many mattress recycling services that could assist you in this, that way there is less stress on you.

Now, if you are wondering how much these services would cost, it might vary depending on the service and size of a mattress, it is important to check estimates or call to confirm a set price. However, many of these services are done at a reasonable price, which is worth it when you think about all the hassles you will get to avoid! And the best part about this is the free pickups, which are provided by most services.

To make it easier on you, I will add a couple of links to help you find the right disposal service around your area. Click away!

The next option is to donate!

If your mattress is not working too well for you, but it is still in decent shape, wouldn’t it be so nice to give it away to those in need. After all, everyone deserves a restful sleep, and you could be making that possible!

And not to worry, just like the disposable services, some donation organizations will provide free pickup as well! Amazing right?

Some organizations to look into would be:

Goodwill: Goodwill is based in the US and Canada with 162 locations. They allow mattress donations, as long as it is in good condition and fits all their guidelines.

Salvation Army: This organization is known for its honorable donations. It is important to check their guidelines before donating. However, in some locations, the organization does provide free pickups. Giving a call to the nearest location would give you a more clear answer on whether or not that service would be available.

Habitat for Humanity: This is a non-profit organization that helps the community improve, by providing various services such as donations, and volunteering. Some locations take mattress donations with a free pick up, however, just like the organizations mentioned above, it is important to double-check with the location near you.

The last option would be to give your mattress away by selling it or putting it for free grabs.

There is nothing wrong with selling your mattress on your own, or just giving it away to one of your friends or family who might also want to switch their own mattress.

8 Red Flags that you should break up with your current mattress

Ciao! This blog is an evaluation of how your current mattress is doing, and if it is time to replace it with a new one. It is important to regularly check on your mattress, but sometimes it is easy to forget this. Not to worry because I will be listing the major signs that are red flags in the world of mattresses and by the end of this you will know if it’s time to move on!

Red flag #1: Your mattress has deep indentations and lumps instead of being firm and flat. The reason this is a sign to replace your mattress is that the lumps will affect how much comfort and support you will be provided with. The uneven parts of the mattress due to the indentations will cause discomfort and could affect the amount of rest you truly allow your body to get.

Red flag #2: Your mattress is sagging. If your mattress does not look even and you can see it sagging even if it is just in some places, it is time to replace it! If you continue to use the mattress, it could prevent your body from getting the support it needs. You could even feel yourself sinking into the mattress and this can affect your sleep, which can leave you feeling exhausted in the morning and can have your body aching. In addition, when the mattress is sagging, you may experience some back pain and your spine will not be aligned… we clearly would not want that!

Red flag 3: Your allergies begin to act up. Mattresses that are kept long over time can start to develop allergens such as dust mites, mold, and mildew. These allergens can start to affect you and it can start up your allergies which can start from the moment you lay in bed to the moment you wake up. So, if you catch yourself specifically sniffling every time you are in bed, it may be that it is time to move on and replace your mattress.

However, memory foam is a great asset to the next mattress you look for because memory foam can prevent and resist the build-ups of these certain allergens mentioned above. Here at GiNO, we provide memory foam to assure you have the most powerful mattress as your next.

Red flag #4: The obvious bed bugs. Stay away from a mattress that shows any signs of these creepy crawlers. One tip to protect yourself from this red flag and even stains and odors is to invest in a mattress protector ASAP!

Here at GINO, we provide our customers with mattress protectors that include long-lasting waterproof and breathable protection, that is suitable for any mattress, and perfect for all seasons.

Red flag #5: There is someone else now. If you recently have been sharing a mattress with someone else, and it is not just you anymore, if there is not much room for the two of you then it might be time to consider replacing your mattress with a bigger size. Having the new mattress include motion separation would be a plus for sharing a bed. With the motion separation, you can easily move around on your side of the mattress, and it would not affect the other side where your partner would be sleeping. You want to make sure you and your partner have a restful and pleasurable sleep each night, so in this case, start by replacing your old mattress!

Red flag #6: You start to feel pain or aches. Getting your sleep should be a stress reliever and a chance for your body to rest so that you can have enough energy for the next day. If you have been waking up feeling aches around your body, it might mean that your mattress does not provide enough support which then can create painful pressure points. It is not normal to constantly wake up with unexpected back pains so make sure to immediately replace it if you have been experiencing this. Say Arrivederci to pains!

Red flag #7: Age matters if we are talking mattresses! Even though it is easy to get attached to your mattress, unfortunately, they should not be lasting forever. Most mattresses should be replaced every 7-10 years. To read more about how often you should replace your mattress, click on the link below for a separate more in-depth blog on this topic!

Red flag #8: It is not you, it’s me. Maybe none of these red flags is something you need to worry about. However, if you still feel like there is something making you consider changing mattresses anyway, then it might just be you, not the mattress! But do not worry, that is totally normal because not every mattress will be suitable for you for a long time, and you might just need something a little different now. If you need that little push to let go, well I am here to let you know that it is okay! To make sure your next pick is the best, check out our shopping guide blog where I help you pick out the perfect mattress match, and continue to read the upcoming blogs on all things mattresses.

Bene, if any of these red flags stand out to you, make sure to give your mattress and a check, and say “Grazie, il prossimo” (Thank you, next) because bigger and better things are coming your way and by that, I mean, a new mattress that will allow you to have the calm restful sleep you desire. Stay tuned for more blogs, but for now, buona notte e sogni d’oro as always from yours truly GiNO.
